Chip Shortages?

There are widespread, if anecdotal, reports of shortages of silicon components from the EMS Industry. This is definitely a sign that inventories got too low in 2009, and possibly that higher demand has come back and is sustainable. Items mentioned as scarce include memory chips, DRAM and NAND and older style processors. Texas Instruments is rumored to have raised certain items 30% or more. Foundaries have had to put customers on wait lists.

The corporate PC has returned to health, and disk drives are also in short supply. Both Western Digital and Seagate have reported strong demand recently.
